I’m Starting An Artists, Makers, And Creatives Community. Come and Join Me.

When facing something BIG - my Dad used to ask me “how I would eat an elephant?!

Er, what Dad?””

“How do you eat an elephant? he would ask again… by now I would be looking at him utterly flummoxed…

His answer was always…

ONE PIECE AT A TIME.”

So here I am, (time 1.19pm, sitting in a hotel room in Cambridge UK) with an idea I fully believe in.

I’m going to build an Artists, Makers, and Creatives Community.

I don’t know how I’m going to do this as of yet. I don’t have a business plan, or any special money to put towards it - no graphics, no one to chat it over with, but I know I that I AM going to do this - because I can feel it in my bones.

It’s that bodily tingle that tells me I’m right. The one you feel in your tummy when you get full clarity of an idea that’s been brewing for ages. A crystalising of all the fleeting previews of an idea that won’t leave you alone. The snippets around this idea have been circling me for years.

Well, today, all those sneak-previews have solidified and here I am, with a clear view of exactly what I want make happen, and then watch grow.

I feel relieved, gathered, and very excited.

Much love

You might be thinking so er, Sam… what is An Artists, Makers, and Creatives Community then?

Here is what I have so far…

WHO

People who generally work for themselves- in studios, sheds, and at kitchen tables.

People who make things - and make sales of those things. When I say things, I mean art, craft, ceramics, textiles, prints, upcycling - anything that is artisan-made. (Artisan = one that involves making things by hand)

What

Coming together for group learning, peer-to-peer support, friendship forming, self-development, work/business development, inspiration replenishment, art history chats, retreats, art practice sharing, connection, and insights gained from special visiting guests.

HOW

Online and in person. Day workshops, evening events, weekend retreats, overseas breaks, travel and holidays.

WHY

Because working alone can be lonely. Creating something where those newer in their businesses can be inspired and learn from those further down the road is golden - and vice-versa, meeting those at earlier stages can spark new ideas for those well established. Everyone wins, connections are made and collaborations may well result.

WHEN

Soon. Now I’m clear in what I am doing, I need some time to plan my best way into making this happen. Workshops are going ahead as we speak, we held our first AM&C’s day recently and the reviews are in - feel free to read them here.

If you would like to join us - please do, you are most welcome.

The first step is to pop your details in here

And finally…

WHY ME?

Why am I the right person to build this group?

Because I know the lows and highs of independently working as an Artist, Maker, and Creative. I’ve done so for almost thirty years now. My life and my business are integral to one another. I need to make (because it’s in my bones) and I’ve needed to earn.

Now in my fifties, I am ripe to share what’s worked for me. Experience takes me from working in a shared studio space (pre-internet! I know!) to opening my art gallery in London, where I sold some 80 other artists work regularly - and then continuing my art practice whilst raising small (then big) children, growing my business into the thriving space it stands in today. It’s been an incredible journey and it’s not over yet.

I’m happy to share all these experiences in the hope that you, your business and in turn, your family will benefit.

Come and join us!

Sam x
