Drawing of the Week

I thought I’d start highlighting one or two pieces that stand out to me, either for the story behind it or because I feel it in making it, it took me somewhere new.

This week I’m choosing this one below ‘Two Food Domes’.

It’s an original ink drawing, size A2.

I chose it because it tells a story. A story of big old silver food domes that kept our meals warm. Food domes talk of opulence, glamorous hotels, silver-service tucks-wearing waiters - along with the function of keeping food hot.

Today these are alien to us, space-hogging to have in our kitchens and frankly, food never hangs around long enough in our home to have to be kept warm.

I drew it for two reasons. One is the historical element mentioned above, the second is that they are the most gorgeous shape to draw (especially using unexpected tools such as twigs and leaves), and thirdly because they send us the message of good food.

This drawing is now sold, I made some more when developing it, single food domes which tell us that cooking for one is as important as cooking for two, or a family.

Home cooking is an option for all of us, just ask Jamie Oliver

With love, Sam x

‘Two Food Domes’ is below right, below left is ‘Cheese Dome’ which follows a similar line shape, I LOVE this shape.
