Draw | Cook | Eat.
I am no cook!
I’m genuinely not confident in the kitchen, but I love being in there and am ok at bringing together family meals. I DEVOUR books (particularly novels) about food, cooking and historical kitchens. When its said that the kitchen is the heart of the home, I fully agree.
Cooking is in many ways so close to making artwork. They are alike in terms of gathering of materials, the process of making, then the finished thing - the dish, or the painting.
I marvel at people that open restaurants and eateries - why? because food goes off. If you don’t sell it, you have to give it away, or in the worse case, bin it - imagine having to do that with a piece of art you have made? (am shuddering)
Today I bought some red bell peppers.
I took them to my studio to make a drawing reel for my Instagram feed (I call them Morning Drawing Ideas and you can see some here).
I cut one in half because the insides of peppers are BRILLIANT to draw, and left one whole so we could draw both the in and the outside of the pepper.
Setting up to draw, I began thinking about what I might cook with said peppers for dinner tonight.
BOOM - an idea landed.
What if we drew the vegetable together, then cooked it - then ate it - together?
DRAW | COOK | EAT
This is a simple idea in essence which could work online or in person.
I know some brilliant cooks - perhaps I could rope them in? Perhaps it might be better to cook in my own kitchen following a (simple) recipe I find.
I’m going to leave this exciting idea to simmer (see what I did there?!) for a day or two. I made a reel sharing my idea over on Instagram asking for thoughts on this and any feedback which are coming in beautifully.
So for now, I would LOVE to hear your thoughts if you have any, feel free to email me here
Loads of love and more soon
